Picture of the fruit of the native flowering dogwood, Cornus florida

This is the fruit of the native flowering dogwood, Cornus florida.
Long after the leaves drop, the bright red fruits of this common understory tree persist. The fruits are eventually eaten by a variety of birds and wildlife. Flowering dogwood can be grown in
USDA hardiness zones 5 through 9. You can find flowering dogwoods
in the Dogwood Collection, the Fern Valley Native Plant Collection,
the Azalea Collection, and near the Administration Building.
