Answer to the Front Page Picture of the Week Question
for October 16th - October 23rd, 2003

This is the developing acorn of Chinese cork oak, Quercus variabilis.
It is one of the fastest growing oaks and can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 5 through 7.
The bark of this perennial deciduous dicot is corky and quite attractive.
You can find Chinese cork oak near the Administration Building.
