Heavenly bamboo may be heavenly, but it's not really a bamboo at all-it is in the barberry family. The bright red fruits are displayed in large panicles at the tips of upright branches, and they persist longer than most berries because birds and wildlife feed on them only when other berries are gone. Heavenly bamboo can be grown in USDA hardiness zones 6 through 9. You can find heavenly bamboo in the Friendship Garden and in the Asian Collections. |
