Sponsored Regional Juried Show

The Potomac Bonsai Association will sponsor a regional juried bonsai show during the Potomac Bonsai Festival at the U.S. National Arboretum April 30, May 1 & May 2, 2010.

• Up to 25 trees will be selected from photographs submitted.
• A committee of three people from the festival’s three sponsoring organizations will review the submitted photos.
• The selected trees will be displayed in the Special Exhibits Wing of the National Bonsai and Penjing Museum.
• The final judging for prizes will be performed by Steven Tolley, visiting bonsai artist for the festival.                   

Please submit photographs (preferably electronic but prints will be accepted) of your trees by April 5, 2010.

Please include the following information with each submission:

• Owner’s name and contact information (address, phone number, email address)
• Common Name of tree
• Scientific/Botanical Name
• Tree and exhibit size (width, height, depth)
• Tree style
• Time in training

Selection of the trees to be exhibited will be made by April 10, 2010, and all entrants will be notified of their selection status by April 15, 2010.

Tree and exhibit size are needed in order to determine how many trees will be displayed in the final show. The exhibit wing of the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum has a finite amount of exhibit space. The dimensions of each exhibit need to include scrolls and/or companion plants, if any.

Those trees selected for the show must be delivered (and picked up) to the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum in person by the owners or their designated representatives. We cannot accept nor can we return trees by shipment.

All trees need to be received by 12:00 pm on Thursday, April 29, 2010, in order to be included in the show. The show will be open to the public at 10:00 am, Friday, April 30 through 4:00 pm, Sunday, May 2. Trees may not be removed before 4:00 pm on May 2.

Awards will be given to first, second, and third place and two honorable mention entries. The owner of each of the award-winning trees will receive a certificate of award. In addition, first, second and third place winners will be awarded prizes, with a total value of $400. All certificates and prizes will be awarded at a National Bonsai Foundation reception to be held at the National Bonsai & Penjing Museum the evening of Friday, April 30, 2010.  The certificates of award will be displayed with the appropriate trees during the show.
